Two years ago, Bob and I found a great restaurant, The Boathouse Pub, just a block from where we were staying in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. As soon as we found out we’d be coming back this summer, we looked online to make sure it was still here. Good news! It’s not only still here, but it’s as awesome as ever!
We tend to be early birds . . . so heading to dinner at 5:30 was a win-win. We were able to beat the crowds for dinner, and take advantage of the 2 for 1 happy hour!
Bob ordered an Odell Easy Street Wheat, and I had one of my summertime bar favorites: sweet tea vodka and club soda, with lemon! It’s basically an “adult” version of iced tea. Both drinks were perfect for a 95° day.
We also ordered an appetizer: green lip mussels in a garlic sherry broth. They were excellent!
I had a seared ahi tuna salad. The tuna was was seared on the outside and rare in the middle, set on top of a bowl full of greens and vegetables. Perfect!
What we probably enjoy most about The Boathouse Pub are the people we meet there. If you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen that I posted a picture of a rainbow we saw from the back patio of The Boathouse Pub. It was beautiful. Later, our bartender (hi Dan!) told us he saw a picture of that entire rainbow, via a friend on Facebook, and sent it to me. Isn’t it gorgeous?!?
Not only are the bartenders and waitstaff so friendly and welcoming, the locals are too! In fact, two years ago, a couple approached Bob and asked about a t-shirt he was wearing (from a century he completed). We got to talking about biking and hiking, and the next thing I knew, they were graciously offering to lend us their bikes to explore Steamboat the next day! I couldn’t believe it. Sure enough, in the morning we met at their home where they had two bikes all set for us to use for the day. Here’s a picture from that excursion.
I hope to pay that forward! You know, when I meet that young couple that’s dreaming of being in Colorado someday–and I can lend them some bikes, so in the meantime they can soak it in!
