What a crazy week! And I have a busy weekend ahead of me–but full of fun things! Speaking of fun things, here’s Friday’s Five!
1. I was inspired to dig up an old Cooking Light cookbook after reading Michelle’s post on her blog, The Lively Kitchen. She wrote an “Ode to Cooking Light Magazine”.
This was one of my first “grown-up” cookbooks, given to me from my Mom when I was in college. I still have sticky notes on recipes I liked!
But the best part is at the beginning of the book. Cool Kitchen Secrets:
And ways to chill in the kitchen!
#1, 3, and 5 are my favorites. :)
2. I’ve never made a pumpkin chili. Corrie Anne’s Pumpkin Chili recipe caught my eye.

3. I want to try making tapenade! Bob and I have been on an olive kick lately, and I just so happened to see this, posted by my friend, Marla:

Sounds do-able to me!
4. I have a personal goal to work on my posture. This was actually a New Year’s resolution, and while I have tried to be more conscious about improving my posture habits, I still have a long way to go.

5. Something to think about:

I made a pumpkin turkey chili last year and it was pretty good. I remember it being a bit on the bland side, so if I make it again I’d need to figure out something to add to give it a kick.
I think I have that same cookbook! I have a subscription to Cooking Light magazine too – mostly I like to look at all the food and dream about making it!
I’ve never subscribed to the magazine…but I’m on their email list, so I wonder if I see the same recipes……hmmmm.
I love your Friday’s fives. What great cool kitchen tips! My favorites are 1, 7, and 9! Have a great weekend Michelle.
Yes, #7 is a good one, too!
I should try that more often.
Haven’t had pumpkin chili before, so it might have to be a first in my book, too!
I think I’ve been trying to improve my posture for the past 5 years. I’m a shorty, too, so I don’t have any extra inches to spare. That infographic is really great!
GREAT idea to work on posture–something that can be done even when injuries are keeping me from running! I love cooking light and was just looking through all the recipes in my fave cooking light cookbook today!
I need to reference cooking light more often–somehow it had fallen off the radar for me. But they have some great ideas!
oh man! i get such a sore next from my desk job! i think its because i have my chin farther out than it should be! I should work on tucking it in…
also i love those cook book rules! i like the one about making someone else wash dishes, and also the one about making a mess! that makes it FUN!
i never knew I should pat a chicken breast dry before sauteeing! good to know! i definitely like my meat browned!
happy weekend!!!!
I didn’t realize about the chicken either until I was flipping through the book the other day! Enjoy the weekend!
Absolutely love that quote!
I thought you might!
Love your quote at the end. So beautiful & empowering. Thank you for sharing that pumpkin chili link. I’ve been looking for a good one
That quote struck a chord with me–had to share!
My cooking light cookbooks (and mags) are my favorite! I always try to find the old books from the 90′s) at used book shops. I made my first pumpkin chili this fall too. Love it and can’t wait to make some more : )
That’s a good idea–about finding the old books. Thanks!
This post made me smile!! I especially liked the ways to have fun in the kitchen – I’m with you one #1,3, and 5, but #7 is a winner too
I just saw a similiar recipe for pumpkin chili – how yummy does that look? Can’t wait to see what you think of it once you’ve had it.
Posture is something I need to work on too.. yuck! I wish I had been a ballerina growing up
I’m stealing this resolution!
Have a great weekend!!
I’ve put the pumpkin chili on my list of dinner ideas for this week. I’ll definitely post about how it goes.
oh i need the posture one bad! and the kitchen.. ya i master the wine thing. haha
I may definitely have to try this pumpkin chili!
late to the kitchen soiree—but for me it is ALL ABOUT one new dish per meal!!
I love the bit about one dish per meal. When I do cook, I typically do about three, and then by the end of the experience I just never want to cook again.
Yay pumpkin chili. I work on posture with my piano students a LOT! But not sure mine is always the greatest!
Oooh, I need those posture tips! Having been travelling for almost three months now, I haven’t been very good at blogging in ergonomic positions… Oh how I love tapenade (no segue there; I’m feeling lazy
)
I stopped by your blog–wow! You’ve been all over the place over the past few months. That’s incredible!
