Happy National Candy Corn Day!

Candy-Corn

October 30th is National Candy Corn Day!

I know candy corn is hit-or-miss for most people.  You either love it or you hate it.  I happen to be a member of the former group.  ;)And I completely understand that it’s just sugar, with more sugar, mixed with more sugar.  Oh yeah, there’s a drizzle of honey (sugar!) in there, too.  But I only have a bit, right around this time of year, so I’m okay with it!  :)

Did you know candy corn was invented in the 1880’s?  It was considered very cutting-edge because of the tri-color design.

Some facts (source):

  • Candy corn has ~6.8 calories per kernel
  • Halloween accounts for 75% of the annual candy corn production
  • According to Brach’s Confections, Inc., the top branded maker of candy corn, each year Americans eat enough Brach’s candy corn that if the kernels were laid end to end, they would circle the Earth 4.5 times

There’s even an informational video on the History Channel!

If you wind up with leftover candy corn this year, you could try making your own Butterfinger Bars!  Averie has an easy 3-ingredient recipe on her site, Averie Cooks.

So, where do you stand with candy corn?!?  Do you have a favorite Halloween candy?

I am a negative fan of candy corn! But I can’t believe Halloween is only 75% of the sales each year. Maybe that doesn’t take into account Thanksgiving? I only ever see it on shelves this time of year.

Wow, that’s a lot of candy corn! I personally can’t stand it. When I was a kid I would eat it to be nice but now I wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole ;) my favorite Halloween candy is the little miniature snickers. I never eat them but then Halloween rolls around and I have like 2 a day :)

I looooove candy corn. I love it because I only need a few pieces to feel satisfied. It’s like pumpkin muffins and pumpkin spice lattes. When candy corn comes out on the shelves I know fall is right around the corner :)

I need candy corn socks! That’s awesome. I, too, have experienced candy corn tummy aches…..oops!

Thanks for the recipe link. I think the oozed-out crispy pieces look like the best part! :) Happy Halloween!
