Friday’s Five

20130221-134016.jpg

I’m excited for the weekend, but definitely have a lot on my plate! Along with the usual running around (yoga class, grocery shopping and meal prep), I am taking my final test to earn certification as a health coach, fulfilling my supervision assignment at the school where I teach, and setting aside time to enjoy the Academy Awards ceremony. Whew! The weekend is jam-packed!

Soothe Achy Feet and Be Eco-Friendly!

IMG_1391

A while back, when my Mom asked for a birthday “wish list”, I suggested finding something I could use to massage the bottom of my feet.

With all the running, biking, and walking I do, I have to be careful to make time to stretch.  Including my feet!  Anyone who has dealt with plantar fasciitis knows what I’m talking about here.

Tabata Interval Workouts

IMG_0822

I’ve recently discovered tabata interval workouts . . . and I love them!  It’s fast and furious . . . and at the same time, effective and challenging.

In a nutshell, tabata interval workouts consist of  8 rounds of:  20 seconds of maximum effort followed by 10 seconds of rest.  So everything happens in a 4- minute time frame.  Take a longer break between each 4-minute set, and repeat the 8 rounds 3 to 4 times.  It’s a fantastic workout!

You can use all sorts of different exercises and modify the workout to be whatever you’d like.  Don’t forget to warm-up, cool-down, and keep good form.  Here are few ideas and resources that I’ve used:

Colorado Road Trip: Boulder

Boulder Farmer's Market

After 16 hours on the road, we are finally home-sweet-home!  I’m excited to cook in my own kitchen, sleep in my own bed, and get back to my gym!  First I need to unpack, but wanted to show a quick glimpse of our last few days of vacation, which were spent in Boulder, CO.  We really enjoy Boulder.  It’s a bike-friendly community, has one of the largest farmer’s markets in the country, and is home to quite a diverse population.  It’s the perfect ending to our vacation!

Colorado Road Trip: What’s That Smell?

IMG_1092

I love walking or running the towns we visit when on vacation.  It’s the perfect way to squeeze in some exercise, while seeing more of what the town has to offer.

The other day, while walking along the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs, CO, a pungent smell hit me.  It was like eggs . . . gone bad.  The stench was strong, too.

I kept walking, soaking up the sun, taking in the sights . . . but that smell just would not quit!  And then I came upon the source.
